Cisco Meraki — Setup Guide

Before You Start

You will need:
  • A Meraki organisation with at least one wireless network and MR access points
  • Dashboard API access enabled (Organization → Settings → Dashboard API access)
  • A Meraki API key with Read + Write permissions
  • A Wiacom account with at least one location configured
In the Meraki Dashboard, click your account email top-right → My Profile → scroll to API accessGenerate new API key. Copy it immediately — it is only shown once.

Step 1 — Prepare Your SSIDs in Meraki

Set up one SSID for each mode you want to use. You can run all three on the same Meraki network.
  1. Go to Wireless → Configure → SSIDs, enable an SSID and name it (e.g. Guest WiFi)
  2. Access Control → Security: set to Open or Open (Enhanced)
  3. Splash page: set to any custom splash option — Wiacom will push the correct URL automatically
  4. Save
Portal and WiFi Pass cannot share the same SSID. If you want both at a venue, create two separate SSIDs.

Step 2 — Add the Controller in Wiacom

  1. In the Wiacom admin panel, go to Inventory → Controllers
  2. Click Add controller → Cisco Meraki
  3. Enter a label for this controller (e.g. Meraki – Main Site)
  4. Paste your Meraki API key and click Next

Step 3 — Select Your Organisation

Select the Meraki organisation you want to link and click Next. Wiacom fetches all wireless-capable networks and their SSIDs.

Step 4 — Assign SSID Roles

RoleSSID type in MerakiWhat it does
PortalOpen + splashRedirect guests to a Wiacom registration page
WiFi PassIdentity PSK without RADIUSProvision a unique passphrase per registrant
Key AccessWPA2 PersonalDeliver the shared password to registrants by email

Step 5 — Map Networks to Locations

Map each Meraki network to a Wiacom venue location. Click Finish. Wiacom saves the configuration, pushes the required SSID settings to Meraki, and imports your AP inventory.

Troubleshooting

Verify Dashboard API access is enabled under Organization → Settings in Meraki, and that the key was copied in full without trailing spaces.
Meraki hides SSIDs named Unconfigured. Make sure at least one SSID has been enabled and given a name in the Meraki Dashboard before connecting.
Confirm the SSID is set to Identity PSK without RADIUS in Meraki, and that at least one Group Policy exists in the network. Go to Network → Group Policies in the Meraki Dashboard to create a default policy if none exists.
Only MR wireless devices are imported. Confirm the Meraki network contains at least one MR-series AP.
