Prerequisites

  • A Wiacom location with at least one WiFi device connected (API or legacy)
  • An open SSID configured on your equipment and assigned the Portal role
  • Portal enabled on your Wiacom plan

Steps

1

Enable Portal

Go to Locations → select your location → Portal → Enable.
2

Connect and configure your WiFi equipment

The SSID must be configured for captive portal redirect on your device. Follow the guide for your vendor:For API-connected controllers (e.g. Meraki), Wiacom pushes the splash URL and RADIUS settings automatically. For legacy/manual devices, the Wiacom admin shows the RADIUS server and portal URL to configure on the device.
3

Customize the Portal Page

Go to Portal → Appearance:
  • Upload your venue logo
  • Set brand colors and background
  • Edit the headline, intro text, and submit button label
  • Add a background image or video (optional)
4

Configure the Registration Form

Go to Portal → Form.Choose from:
  • Registration-free — guest clicks to accept terms, instant access. Device MAC and visit timestamp captured for analytics.
  • Full registration — guest fills in form fields (name, email, phone, etc.) before receiving access.
For registration forms, configure GDPR consent checkboxes:
  • Terms & conditions — required
  • Marketing consent — optional, tracked separately
5

Configure the Walled Garden

Guests must reach the portal before authenticating. Add to your device’s pre-authentication allow-list:
CategoryDomains
Required*.wiacom.ai
Facebook / Instagram*.facebook.com, *.fbcdn.net, *.akamaihd.net, connect.facebook.net
Google*.google.com, *.googleapis.com, *.gstatic.com
Twitter / X*.twitter.com, *.twimg.com
LinkedIn*.linkedin.com, *.licdn.net, *.licdn.com
Add any domains referenced by custom content in your portal design. See your vendor’s guide for how to apply the walled garden.
6

Configure Session Settings

Go to Portal → Session Settings:
SettingDescription
Session durationHow long MAC authorization remains valid (e.g. 24 hours)
Re-authenticationWhether guests must re-register after session expiry
Bandwidth limitPer-guest upload/download limits applied via RADIUS
7

Test the Portal

  1. Connect a device to the Portal SSID
  2. Open a browser — navigate to http://neverssl.com if the redirect doesn’t trigger automatically
  3. Complete the registration
  4. Verify internet access is granted
Some devices only browse HTTPS by default. Use an HTTP URL to force the captive portal redirect during testing.
