MAC Users manages devices that are granted WiFi access by MAC address — without going through the captive portal registration flow. The section has two pages: Search (list and manage existing records) and Add New (create a new record).
Search
Find existing device records using one of five search modes. Select the search type from the Search By dropdown, fill in the corresponding field, and click Search.
| Search by | Input |
|---|
| MAC | Device hardware address |
| Email | Email address associated with the record |
| Name | Label assigned to the device |
| Room | Room identifier |
| Type | Select from: Guest · Staff · Device |
An optional Location filter and Interval (date range) filter can be combined with any search mode to narrow results further.
Results table
Each row represents one device record. Rows with a passed expiry date are highlighted in yellow.
| Column | Description |

Edit
Click Edit on any row to open the edit modal. The following fields can be updated:
- Name
- Type (Guest / Staff / Device)
- Room
- Email
- Expiration date and time
- Location
The device MAC address is displayed in the modal header for reference and cannot be changed. Click Save Changes to apply.
Troubleshoot
Click Troubleshoot on any row to open the trace details modal for that device. The modal loads the following diagnostic sections:
Credential status — whether the device has a valid access record and what state it is in.
Online status — whether the device currently has an active session.
Traffic statistics — session duration and data volume over time, rendered as a chart. Two series are shown: session time and total traffic (download + upload).
Authentication logs — a timeline of access attempts for this device, rendered as a chart. Two series are shown: accepted and rejected attempts.
Interval selector — by default the modal loads recent data. Use the Start time and End time fields and click Update Interval to analyse a specific historical window.
Export to PDF — the full modal content (excluding the interval selector controls) can be exported as a PDF file. The filename includes the device MAC address.
Add New
Navigate to Settings → Create MAC User to create a new record. Fill in the following fields:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|
| MAC address | Yes | Hardware MAC address of the device |
| Name | Yes | Descriptive label — e.g. “Lobby kiosk”, “POS terminal 3”, “Room 204 tablet” |
| Location | Yes | Venue where this device will connect |
| Type | Yes | Guest · Staff · Device |
| Email | No | Optional email address for reference |
| Room | No | Room number or identifier |
| Expire on | No | If set, access is automatically revoked after this datetime |
| WiFi vendor | Yes | The hardware vendor profile for this location. Auto-populated based on the selected location — change only if the device connects via a different vendor than the location default |
The WiFi vendor selection determines how the device’s access credentials are generated internally. It defaults to the primary vendor configured for the selected location. Only change it if you are provisioning a device on a secondary or different vendor at that location.
Click Add User to create the record. The device will be granted access on its next connection attempt without going through the captive portal.
MAC address authentication can be bypassed by devices that spoof hardware addresses. Use MAC Users only for trusted, managed devices — kiosks, POS terminals, IoT sensors, digital signage, and similar equipment. It is not suitable as the sole access control mechanism in security-sensitive environments.
